Walking and Cycling
The hills and valleys of County Wicklow are a wonderful location for exploring the
countryside either on foot or by bicycle.
Such is the variety of terrain in the County, that a stage of the
1998 Tour de France cycle race passed
through Avoca and other nearby villages. The "Wicklow
200" annual non-competitive 200km cycle race attracts over 2000 cyclists
every June. The 2011 route took cyclists right past Ashdene's door!
Ashdene itself is located in quiet country location, with plenty of opportunity
to discover the local area on foot, exploring quiet country roads. Some of the
most spectacular walks in Ireland are to be experienced in the Wicklow Mountains
National Park area. Within this Park, the valley of Glendalough hosts nine
way-marked trails, varying from 30 minutes to 4 hours in length.
